I had my first meeting with the prof and other students ytd. I think my results didnt really impress the prof since she seemed more interested by the results of the other students. Hmm. Considering that there are 2 other URECA students who are CN YANG scholars, and out of the other 3 fyp students, one is on dean's list, another has prior experience, it seems almost acceptable that i wont stand out.
Actually, i did something silly which the others didnt do. They didnt show their experiments that failed or had erroneous readings, I did. I even analysed why and blamed it on my techniques. LOL. Okay, so next time i should only present the 'perfect' results. And i also chose a wrong template. Not that it was too flashy or anything, but when i applied it, all the numbers become slightly italised/ become smaller than the alphabets. That irked the prof a lot..
She made a comment during the meeting that i couldnt agree with. The overall meaning is that when doing research, you need to sacrifice a lot of things, including time with your family. Then the sense of accomplishment when a breakthrough is achieved will drive you to continue further research.
In my humble opinion, my family is my source of support. Without them, even if i achieve something fantastic, then who should i share the joy with? Probably most females think the same way, that explains why there are lesser female researchers, and more which are single? Maybe.. ppl just find it hard to strike a balance between family and research.. unless they have perfect time mgt.
